What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a primary contact health care profession that is non-invasive and hands-on, focusing on the neuromusculoskeletal system.
Chiropractors provide diagnosis, treatment and preventative care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.
What can I expect during my visit?
We will firstly take a complete history, then a full orthopedic and neurological examination in order to diagnose each patient. We can then develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment plan, usually involving adjustments and soft tissue care. We may recommend therapeutic exercise and also provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling. We use a combination of treatments, all of which are decided based on the specific needs of the individual patient. If you have any previous imaging results or other relevant health information, please bring that with you. If we feel the need to have further testing done, appropriate referrals will be made immediately. Patients from Kallangur Chiropractic Clinic who require x-rays can have them bulk-billed.
What exactly is a chiropractic adjustment?
An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement usually applied by hand to a joint of the body. It is high-velocity and low-force and therefore is quite gentle. An adjustment loosens the joint to restore proper movement and optimize function. When some joints are adjusted, a gas bubble escapes causing the popping noise you may have heard about. This is the same principle applied as when opening a can of soda. Some techniques, however, do not cause any popping noises. Adjustments performed with an instrument may be used.
Chiropractic adjustment techniques have been researched extensively, and there are many techniques for a chiropractor to choose to use that are based on the individual patient. Complications are rare and side effects, such as temporary soreness, are usually minor. Most patients experience immediate relief following a treatment and look forward to being adjusted.
How many times will I have to come?
Every patient will have a different program of care as each person is unique in their circumstances. Once a full assessment is done, we can better provide an accurate prognosis.
Chiropractic care may be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with acute and chronic conditions, as well as to improve overall health and well-being. The benefits of regular adjustments go beyond pain relief, and improve the function of all of our organs and systems.
There are three phases of care:
- Phase One focuses primarily on symptomatic relief (decreased pain, improved mobility, reduced inflammation)
- Phase Two corrects long-term causes of your condition
- Phase Three maintains the benefits achieved and prevents recurring problems
The chiropractor will discuss your health goals and work with you to achieve them.
